In this video, I want to share with you the importance of the domain or the URL structure as you’re looking to do Search engine optimization for your website.

Often times search engines look for keywords within the URLs, which can help your website rank higher for those specific keywords.

This isn’t to say that if you have a keyword within your URLs you’re going to automatically be ranked higher, or if you don’t have a keyword in your domain or URL, you’ll be ranked lower. But every little bit helps. So it won’t hurt having your main keyword within your URL structure.

So if you’re new and you want to register a domain, you want to do so with you’re a keyword in mind. However, you don’t want to get too specific to the point that you annihilate the possibilities of expansion for the future of your website, but you also want to have search engines in mind, as you’re using a keyword.

However, if you already have a domain name, and there isn’t any keyword in it, don’t stress about it, that won’t hurt your search engine rankings, it just won’t help you as much as having a keyword in your domain.

The other thing you want to have in mind is the URL structure. It’s important to have search engine friendly URLs. If you post a lot of articles in your website, you might want to include the date inside your URLs, so that those URLs are unique enough and they don’t overlap with one another.

And if you have specific keywords within those URLs that are related to each specific post, that will make it easier for Search engines to pick up your website and rank it higher.
